Matthew and Brown (1922) formerly classified it under the name ''Ornithomimus affinis'' (Gilmore, 1920)〔Matthew, W.D. and B. Brown. 1922. The family Deinodontidae, with notice of a new genus from the Cretaceous of Alberta. Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History 46(6):367-385.〕 which was, in turn, a replacement name for ''Dryosaurus grandis'' (Lull, 1911).〔Lull, R.S. 1911. Systematic paleontology of the Lower Cretaceous deposits of Maryland: Vertebrata. Maryland Geological Survey: Lower Cretaceous 183-211.〕 Gilmore (1920) placed ''Dryosaurus grandis'' in the genus ''Ornithomimus'', which rendered Lull's name secondarily preoccupied by ''Ornithomimus grandis'' (Marsh, 1890) and necessitated the replacement name ''Ornithomimus affinis''.〔Gilmore, C.W.. 1920. Osteology of the carnivorous Dinosauria in the United States National Museum, with special reference to the genera Antrodemus (Allosaurus) and Ceratosaurus.
